IE 6 SP1 WinXP Professional Dead: Help!!!

L

lounger

I am running winxp Professional and I am assuming IE6 SP1. IE will not
run. Every time I try to go to any page it crashes with: /"Internet
Explorer has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for
the inconvenience." /I am able to open IE because I have the default
page set to about:Blank. But, if I try to go anywhere, it crashes. I
have scanned my machine for viruses and adware; it is clean. I have
reset all internet options to default. I have deselected Sun and IBM VMs.

I tried to reinstall the latest IE from Microsoft and ISSI, but the
installer stops with: /"Setup has detected a newer version of Internet
Explorer already installed on this system. Setup cannot continue."/

Please help.

lounger,
The first step to resolve your problem:
How to Disable Third-Party Tool Bands and Browser Helper Objects
http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=298931

If this allows IE to start, see:
Dealing with Unwanted Malware, Parasites, Toolbars and Search Engines
http://mvps.org/winhelp2002/unwanted.htm

Don't forget to re-enable the BHO option (if used)
