IE 6 SP1 and Windows Update problem.

Rob

I have been experiencing a problem with IE 6 SP1 (Ver.
6.0.2800.1106.xpsp2.03.0422-1633) on XP SP1. When trying
to connect to the Windows Update page I am redirected to
http://v4.windowsupdate.microsoft.com/en/thanks.asp and
receive the following error:
Thank you for your interest in Windows Update

Windows Update is the online extension of Windows that
helps you get the most out of your computer.

You must be running a Microsoft Windows operating system
in order to use Windows Update.

I have tried to reinstall IE 6 SP1, as well as remove
already installed updates on my machine and once again
tried to reinstall IE 6 SP1. I have also performed a
reinstall of XP with no luck, I have re-applied service
packs, etc. Short of reinstalling my machines OS and
Software from scratch, is there any ideas.

Patiently
Rob

Thanks PA Bear

I have visited the troubleshooting page and have tried a
few suggestions with no luck. I have also deleted the
Post Platform Registry Key as suggested with no success.

Any further suggestions? I am downloading all security
patches manually and will be reinstalling them once more
to see if any changes may occur.

Thanks for your suggestion
Rob

Have you tried disabling the third-party firewall (and any pop-up/ad
blockers or "system" tools)? Are you running both a third-party firewall
and WinXP's built-in one?

Are you reaching Windows Update via http://v4.windowsupdate.microsoft.com?
Have you tried https://v4.windowsupdate.microsoft.com?

IE Tools>Internet Options>Security>Trusted Site [highlight]>Sites
[button]>Require server verification (https:) for all sites in this zone
(uncheck). In the "Add this Web site to the zone:" field, add the following
entries to list of Trusted Sites:

http://www.download.windowsupdate.com
http://v4.windowsupdate.microsoft.com
https://v4.windowsupdate.microsoft.com
http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com
http://download.windowsupdate.com, and
*.akamai.net [eff.16-Aug-03]

Why can't I download updates?
