links wont open from the search window on left side of IE unless i use "open

Hi Randall 
You don't mention the version of Windows you are using, but, try the
following and see if it helps:
Open IE>Tools>Internet Options>Advanced>under Browsing>UNcheck "Reuse
windows
for launching shortcuts."
If you have a toolbar or program running that blocks pop-up windows, such as
Yahoo Companion, Google toolbar, MSN toolbar, etc., disable them, Yahoo
Companion is known to cause various problems and should be uninstalled.
