Frank Saunders can you help? I have IE 6 svc pack 1.
When attempting to get updates from MS web sites I am
warned that my browser is not supported. Trying to
download a new IE 6 from MS, instead of going to the IE 6
site I receive an error message. (msxml3.dll error
80072f76 header not found library/toolbox/3.0 VB.ASP, line
34) I am not able to access the IE 6 download page from
without or from within MS websites. Every attempt results
in the same error message.
I do not know what supported means. I do not know why
mine isn't supported. I can't find a way to access a
download or repair for a supported browser. I thought I
had it once but it appears that there are two different
downloads at the website. It will only download the first
small download and gives no way to access the other very
large download listed behind the first one.
Not having a supported browser seems to block me from an
increasing number of sites. I now can not function in
some MS sites that I used to be able to including the one
above with two downloads. I have spent days trying to
locate or access something that would help, but every
attempt dead ends before finding a solution.
How can I get this browser supported or download one that
is supported?

Several of these are known to cause problems:
1) Zone Alarm Pro [Private Header Info - enabled?]
Reset "Ad Blocking" and "Cookie Control" to "medium"
"Mobile Code Control" = Off

2) Symantec (ISS\NIS)[Enable Browser Privacy - enabled]
Active Content - "Allow All Script To Execute"
Problem: some sites cannot detect the 128 bit encryption
Solution: Completely remove and reinstall NIS.

3) Any "ad blocking" software that blocks "http_referer"
or contains entries that are blocking access to the desired site.

4) HOSTS file that contains entries that are blocking access to the desired
site.

5) Cookie blocking software that are blocking "required" Cookies.

6) Pop-up blockers that are stripping header\url info.

7) WebWasher Standard Filter/URL Filter

8) Make sure the following entry is not corrupt:
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet
Settings]
"User Agent"="Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 6.0; Win32)"

Note: "Win32" = Windows 98\ME
Other versions = (compatible; MSIE 6.0; Windows NT 5.0;)

Thank you I will check these out and see.
I am using W 2000 Professional.

MUCH BETTER!
Thank you, thank you. Adjusting the Norton settings has
severly improved the performance of IE 6.
Again, thank you!

YW, Dave. IMHO uninstalling anything Norton will improve performance
another 100%.
