I have a problem with a new computer I just bought, installed windows
xp with sp2. Everytime I open Internet explorer my links bar which is
shown rearranges everything in alphabetical order which is not how I
set them. I searched the net for a fix and attempted to alter 2
registry settings that were suggested (can't find these instructions
now for the life of me) which were to remove the read only checkmarks
through regedit. I was unable to do this as the marks were checked but
the boxes were grayed in. Any advice would be appreciated.

Do you have a link Don, I looked for a response in that group as I
posted there also and didn't see it.

Yes, I did find it. My apologies for not posting so. Still can't find
the instructions for the changes that have to be made to the registry,
would you happen to know what they are?

Hi,
PA Bear's advice to sort from the default Favorites button at the top of the
toolbar or from Start> Favorites, rather than from the other Favorites
button should help.

And, you may not find this answer helpful. ;-) I've been following this
issue for a few years and haven't seen a fix that absolutely prevents IE
from occasionally putting Favorites in alphabetical order. There is a
registry hack which forces IE to sort Favorites by name. That's posted in
*many* places.

My advice would be to add sub-folders within Links to make Favorites easier
to find, or resort to naming tricks to achieve the order you want. There's a
blank space available in Character Map that's useful, or you can use
letters, numbers, punctuation marks, etc.

I found this a few days ago but neglected to bookmark it and for the
life of me I cannot find any trace of the reg mod anywhere. If not a
direct link, could you post a search string that I could use to find
it?
thanks,
Angie.

Hi,
If you delete this key then restart, all Favorites will be put in
alphabetical order. But, I think this the opposite of what you want to
accomplish. You want to have Favorites in a customized, non-alphabetical
order, right?
