IE 6 Error

Guest

Each time I open IE 6 I'm getting an error. This just started happening
within the last week or so. I'm not sure what to do to fix it. Hopefully
someone here can help me out.
The error is as follows:

Microsoft Internet Explorer

Cannot find ‘file:///C:/WINDOWS/s.htm’. Make sure the path or Internet
address is correct.

I'm using Windows XP with Service Pack 2 installed.

Thanks.

Forgot to add that I'm using Mozilla Firefox for my main browser.
Also that when the error window comes up on IE 6; I click on "OK", the
browser opens and I can surf no problem from there. I just don't like seeing
that I have any kind of error on my computer.

Hi Steven :)

You have a hijacker. Make a folder on your hard drive, like My
Documents\HJT

Download the newest version of HiJackThis here:
http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/files/hijackthis.php

Unzip the Download file in a NEW FOLDER that you can create before you start
the download.
DO NOT install in your Desktop folder.
DO NOT use any of the TEMP folders that are presently in your computer.
Double-click "HijackThis.exe" and Press "Scan".

When the scan is finished, the "Scan" button will change into a "Save Log"
button. Press that, save the log some place you remember where it is.
Most of what it lists will be harmless or even required, so DO NOT fix
anything yet.

Open the copy of your log in NotePad and make a copy. Then you can go to one
of the following to post your log:

<<PLEASE DO NOT POST YOUR LOG FILE TO THIS NEWSGROUP>>

Go to one of the HiJackThis Support Forums below:

You will need to register at the Forums to open a new thread to post you
log. It is free,
and no one will Spam you, it is one of many that provides this service. Once
registered, go to the HiJackThis section on the forum list and click to
open. Then start a new post and post your log. The experts there will
analyze the log and report back the results. Please allow at least a few
hours or a days time for a response, depending on when you post the log

Remember, you must return to the HJT site to get your answer. It is a good
idea to click the "Notify" box so that you will get an electronic
notification by e-mail to let you know when a response has been posted.
But, you must still return to the site of your answer

Hi,
This file appears to have come from the JS.Fortnight.B trojan/worm. It's
possible that the file has been removed, but a registry entry is still
trying to load the file.
http://securityresponse.symantec.com/avcenter/venc/data/js.fortnight.b.html
http://www.srnmicro.com/virusinfo/fortnightb.htm

Since this is a javascript worm, it might clean up with Ad-aware and/or
Spybot. http://mvps.org/winhelp2002/unwanted.htm

This trojan has been out for over a year, so updating your anti-virus
program and running it may also clean it up.

To find (possibly) the registry entry that's calling this file, see
http://windowsxp.mvps.org/startup.htm

Hope this helps,
Don

'Steven',

Google has quite a few references to your error, but I could not find
anything really constructive to tell you, although it appears to be a
virus.

If you go to www.google.com and search using: Cannot find
file:///C:/WINDOWS/s.htm
you can make up your own mind as to what, if anything, is useful in
helping you solve the problem.

Regards,
Emrys Davies.
