IE 6. can you block a site

N

NB

Is there a way in Internet Explorer to block a web site? Everytime I do a
search and click on a site
it seems I keep getting this one site. It never starts out with the
name blabla.com where you
see it right at the start but it is always stuck in there somewhere and it
drives me nuts.
Please answer to the board. Thanks

HI NB,
Your machine is infested with malwares, try to scan for malwares on your

Here are some steps to clean up:
1... Click start >> Control Panel >> Double Click Network and Internet
Connections >> Double click Internet Options, on the IE Properties window
you will see these Options:
General | Security | Privacy | Content | Connections | Programs

Click on General Tab (1st Tab on the left) and you will see a Button called
[ Clear History ..] click on it to clear your History caches, then click on
[Delete Files..] to delete Internet Files created over the time, click on [
Delete Cookies...] to delete your cookies left by visiting websites.

= Then try to Disable the Add-Ons on your Browser somehow installed on your
browser, On how to disable the Add-ons follow this:
Click on Programs Tab and then click the Manage Add-Ons Button there Disable
the None/Not Verified Plug-ins/Add-ons ( you need to Renable them one-by-one
later and see which is the culprit or you can send them here in your next
post) and click [OK] to confirm your Changes.

Click on Advanced Tab and scroll down under the browsing option and uncheck
this box:

I'm sorry for the confusion. All I want to do is block one site.
The name of the site is about-com. Thanks.

Quick answer - use the hosts file.

http://www.mvps.org/winhelp2002/hosts.htm

Real answer - Change your default search provider from About.com to
something else like Google or Yahoo.

http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=change+default+search+provider+XP&btnG=Search

If you are unable to do the latter, then clean up your computer:

Hi,
You can Block in your Hosts file by giving it the localhost IP address like
so:
127.0.0.1 www.about.com

Or you can block it in the Firewall and on the Browsers in Restricted Sites.
HTH.
