IE 6 address bar search problem

Hello,

Whenever I try to search a term directly from the Address
bar in IE 6, I receive a white page with the heading: "The
page cannot be displayed" and the search term used (for
example: "computer") is shown in the address bar
as: "http:///? computer."

I would appreciate any input as to how to fix this
annoyance?

First eliminate any scumware.

Note that AdAware and SpyBot S & D will each catch some things the other
won't. Also, each needs to be updated before every use, even when just
downloaded. There's also a lot more to do than just those two programs.

HijackThis solved the problem by deleting an offending
registry entry.
