IE 6.0 and windows explorer Status bar

why every time i open IE, i always have to click on
view>> status bar just to view the status, it also apply
to windows explorer.

how do i open them with the status bar shown?
 
yes, the check mark for status bar is not retained

I have the same problem with the status bar not stay checked. So how
can I fix this so that it stays checked?
