Idle-timed Hibernate and/or standby sometimes works and sometimes doesn't,
why doesn't it work properly all the time???????

I have winxp pro + all the updates + p4 3.0c 800 HT + 1gb mem [yes i
installed microsoft's patch for when mem is 1gb and won't hibernate]. + asus
p4p800 D + latest bios + Ati aiw 9600 pro + logitech quickcam 4000 pro +
microsoft trackball explorer + logitech internet navigator keyboard

I can manually set the computer into hibernate no problem however when i set
a timed like say after 25 minutes of no cpu & keyboard/mouse acitivty it
sometimes works and sometimes doesn't. When it doesn't i can reboot
[sometimes it doesn't work even after a reboot have to reboot twice] and
most of the times it works good for alittle while then stops working even
without me rebooting or anything. When i mean stops working i mean that it
doesn't put the computer into hibernat after the 25 minutes.

I've reinstalled win xp thru CD but still have same problem.
I have both enabled and disabled Apm in bios still same.

You microsoft guru's know anything ???? is the Hyperthreading messing with
the way windows see's the cpu idle activity ????? etc

thanks

Hi Harry,

Sounds like you've covered most of the options. The long and the short of it
is that sometimes hibernate and/or standby simply will not work on a system.
It is nearly always a driver issue, and sometimes experimenting with the mix
of old/new drivers can help.

2. Scroll down to Network Adapters and click on the "+" to expand.
3. Right-click on your Ethernet Adapter and select Properties >
Power Management.
4. Uncheck all the boxes and click OK.

i'm thinking that may be the case because this is a brand new computer that
i put together in october and i think that hibernate worked ok originally
UNTIL i started buying new hardware and installing the sofware ie ATI vid
card etc.

Looks like i might have to reformat the drive and install 1 thing at a time
and check to see if the hibernate works - Obviously this is my LAST resort.
