Hi Dave,
How can I determine whether my bootlegged copy
of XP home was installed OEM, or upgrade from 9x/Me ?

Huh? I would think you would know if you upgraded. OEM merely means that you
have a version of WinXP that was distributed with some piece of hardware,
nothing illegal about that. The illegal versions distributed are volume
licenses of WinXP Pro.

Ok, so I've established that I can activate my bootlegged
copy of XP by changing the key and then using a fully
paid for key providing I use a key that matches the
version type.

Thanks DM

The product ID would have OEM in it.

XP home is bootlegged by using PA cracks.

: dave ,give me your telephone number and street address and i will be right over to assist you.

A most generous offer :)

No, the reason I wanted to assess the version is because
I planned to buy XP home and use my new legit key to legitimize
the bootlegged copy.

This way hopefully, I wouldn't have to reinstall
mass quantities of software.

Only, now the plot thickens as I didn't buy the home version,
I bought XP Pro. OEM

So it looks like I'll just have to suffer a day or two of reinstalling
beaucoupe programs unless there's a way to upgrade the home
version the OEM version.

So now I have a bunch of questions about installing XP Pro
since the home version I want to replace is located on a partition
Called D: in a dual boot system with Me on C:

If anyone has any idears about this,, see my new thread posted
on 5/29/04 called "XP install questions"

Thanks to all that responded in this thread.
