Identify Mystery Icon

The icons associated with file types get scrambled or forgotten from
time to time, especially when I'm using the windows search utility.

An unfamiliar icon appeared this morning and I was wondering if anyone
can identify it:

It's vaguely familiar, but rather than trying to identify the icon it would
be better to identify what's running. Open up Task Manager and make a note
of the programs/processes. Use the various startup troubleshooting
techniques described below. Google the names of anything you don't know.

Start>Run>msconfig [enter]

This brings up the System Configuration Utility. Look on the Startup tab and
find the probable culprit. Uncheck the box next to its name, Apply and OK
out. You don't need to restart immediately, but the next time you do you'll
get a dialog saying you've used the Utility. Just tick the box that says in
effect, "don't bother me about this again".

Important - Do not use the System Configuration Utility to stop processes.
Instead, use Start>Run>services.msc [enter] and do not stop any services
unless you really, really know what you're doing.

That a bretty one!
I looks like the windows Agent Icon but I will not rely on this.
Right click it and see what the properties will report for this icon.

who knows what all those svchosts are up to, but..

not it needs to be looked into..

of course, my first suspicion was that it was some rogue application..
the icon was associated with photoshop .psds this time, but a lot of
times nero or foobar or.. really, it can be any application that'll
grab and mis-associate when i search | files or folders for
something.. i never understood why it happens, but i generally
recognize the icons..

You mentioned something that can be the cause, could you please send me your
hijackthis log or send it to one of many forums on the internet to help you
with it.
Download Hijackthis and send me the log.

You actually have to do the legwork to find out what's running on your
computer. The free Process Explorer can show you what is using svchost.exe.

You can get Autoruns there, too. Doing a clean boot can also tell you what
the item is. And of course, scanning for viruses/malware never hurts.
