O

oldad

For the third or fourth time I am getting in Automatic updates (identical
KB's) installed on different dates:
following example jusata today:

Windows Malicious Softwaare Removal Tool Apral 2005 (KB890830) Successful
Friday April 15 Automataic update
" " " " " "
" ( KB890830) " Thurs April 14 " "
"
(KB890830) " Wed Mar 2 " " "
(KB890830 ) " Wed Feb 9 " "

Any ideas why I get these duplicates on different dates

Thanks in advance,

Because MS updates the malicious software removal tool once a month.

Thanks Kurt,

Then why two in April/
And there is something strange here in that In the last ten minutes I got 6
repeat SIX identical "Security Update for Windows XP (KB890859) April 15 and
there are already three of the same on other different dates

I think I had best go off Automatic and go to manual, then I can check if
its the same duplicate KB or newer.

Yeah, sounds like somethings screwy with your AutoUpdates.

I think I had best go off Automatic and go to manual, then I can

Download the tool, and run it manually, and see if it breaks the loop
that AutoUpdate seems to be in for you.

Hi kurttrail,

I have received 23 downloads of KB890830 between 4/14/05 and 7/3/05 so I
came here looking for help. I read your post and I cut and pasted

http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/...0b-5b397199cbf8/Windows-KB890830-V1.3-ENU.exe

into a browser window and I received "The page cannot be found . . ."

What can I do to stop the automatic downloading and installation of this
update without turning off Automatic Updates?

Thanks in advance . . . Denise

Hi Torgeir,

Thanks for responding to my question.

I think you misunderstood my question. KB890830 has been downloaded and
installed 24 times already (it downloaded and installed again last night). I
want to stop Microsoft from automatically downloading and installing this
update without turning off Automatic Updates. How would I go about doing
this?

Hi,

Select "Custom Install", unselect KB890830, and when asked, select
to never show the update again.

When you get the prompt that updates are ready for your computer, choose
the "Custom" install option instead of "Express". Then uncheck the
update you don't want to install. Then there is an Advanced option that
enables to you to choose "don't offer these updates again" (language
may be slightly different as I am quoting from memory).
