Would it be OK to install both SATA and IDE on the same motherboard?

Yes. But read the operating and bios manuals for the particular
motherboard on how SATA and IDE may interact as well as how the
settings should be configured to reflect any specific operating
condition. This is really new territory and no real standards
exist to govern their interactions.

I have 2 sata drives, (one is the OS and the other is data), 2 cd/dvd drives
on one ide and another ide drive as a removable HD that I turn on when I do
my image back up to. No problems so far (knock knock)

Second attempt to post

I had SATA disk installed by my computer person 2 days ago.

I had 2 EIDE disks.

SATA has replaced the primary EIDE disk

I had to set the second EIDE disk as slave and NOT cable select for
the Sata to be recognised as First Disk in many programs.
