IDE is greyed out

I was going to write a little code but when I navigated to the IDE
most of the menus are greyed out. Not the top most menu but the child
menu like all of the children of "edit" are greyed out and "insert
user form" or "class module" are greyed out too.

The title across the project explorer says no project selected,
needless to say I am at a loss as to what is going on. I have done
some hacking before but I don't remember running into this.

Can anyone shed some light?

I can only reproduce this when there is indeed no project selected.
It might denote a corruption of your file.

What happens when you open a new workbook and then open the VBE?
