IDE DVD-Rom 16x Problems.... please help!!!

Hi,
I am running windows xp pro and have a pioneer dvd writer
as well as an ide dvd-rom 16x drive. The problem is that
though device manager says the ide drive is working fine,
when i put a dvd or cd in it still thinks the drive is
empty.
This is driving me mad.
Any help would be amazing.

This could be caused by Defective Media ( cdr disks ) and also dirty lens
on your dvd drive. If you have a can of Air try
squirting some into the drive. See if it works in another computer.
