Hello
I'm new to working with pc's and music, so forgive me from asking a "newbie"
question.
I have scrolled back many pages here trying to see if someone had asked the
same to prevent duplication, but didn't see any.

I recently subscribed to Napster, and have been downloading many songs.
The lists on the hard drive shows the categories in list form (such as song
title, artist, length, year, etc.
This is great as it works like a database, and I can sort by the different
titles.

After quite a few I burned them to CD's to free up memory.
When I rip them back from the CD, the titles no longer show, and all that is
given is the "Track" number.

Is there something I am doing wrong when burning the songs to either the CD
or ripping them back to the hard drive ?

Any help and assistance greatly appreciated.

There are two types of CDs you can burn - audio CDs (limited to 80 minutes)
and data CDs (generally limited to 700MB, holding MP3/WMA files etc,
basically a big floppy disk).

If you burn audio CDs, then you lose all the tags. When you rip the tracks
back to your hard drive, WMP would have to attempt to re-identify the music
using its rather sketchy online database.

If you burn data CDs, then the files are backed up intact, and you can just
copy them back to your hard drive (rather than ripping them).

Mike,
Thanks for your reply and help.
I guess I'll have to be more selective in buying CD's ...
I have quite a lot that I would purchase when on sale, and I'm not really
sure which I have ... will have to check.

P.S.
Also, does anyone know of a good software program that converts wma to
MP3's, and then back again?
Using wma's cuts down on the memory on the hard drive, but have to convert
to MP3's to burn entries.

Regarding CD data/CD music ...
Many "stacks" have been opened, and with the "sealant" plastic pulled off,
there is no way to tell what kind of CD it is.
Will I just have to "trial and error" it, or is there somewhere on the CD I
could see and be able to tell ???

I'm getting my money's worth from this post, aren't I .. lol :)
