Hi All,

After many day's attempting to use ICS with the XP native
software and getting knowhere I decided to use a thrid
party software to configure ICS. The s/s was proxyi and
this worked superbly.

Can anyone tell me what are the security conseqences are
of using this 3 party s/w. I have zone alarm pro as my
Firewall and also have an up to date virus protector.

Any kind of information would be greatly welcomed.

Kind Regards

Peter .

the problem is that you are using ZONEALARM! (EEEEEKKK!)
ZONEALARM free edition blocks the ICS and there is no other solution unless
you either upgrade to the pro edition or use another ICS compatible firewall
(the only free one that I have seen that IS compatible is the one built in
to XP).
Stupidly enough they dont really make xlear this disturbing limitation, so
many people are going crazy about this.

For this reason I never install zonealarm on my computer! I use the XP
firewall that
does not block the ICS!

Uninstall zonealarm compleatly to see if this fixes your issue and if it
does, instead of buying a third party connection sharring program, buy a pro
firewall, or in my opinion dont buy anything. The xp firewall is enough for
most cases.

Hi Ken,

Thanks for the reply...I do have zone alarm pro and this
does not block the ICS as you quite rightly explained.
The point I was trying to make was is there a security
risk with this third party software Proxyi even though I
do have the protection of firewall and virus.

Kind regards
Peter Flint.

if you have zonealarm pro then I dont think you will have a security
problem.
But it is strange WHY you was not able to use ICS..... have you tried it
while zonealarm was disabled? Perhaps it is blocking the ics still and needs
configuration.
