ICS files renamed to MSG extension

Guest

I have a web based application that sends .ics attachments to the end user,
but Outlook/Exchange appears to be renaming the extensions to .msg and as a
result the appointment is not working in Outlook for my users. Is this a
setting in Outlook or in Exchange? Where is this set at and why would a
customer's IT department change this setting?

Thank you.

There's no such setting in Outlook that I know of. You didn't mention the Exchange and Outlook versionsl.
