"The icon in the upper left hand corner"

Wanna give a hint as to what it looks like - you can put any thing up there
you want.

Recycle Bin seems to be commonly found in screenshots on the net in that
corner, but I really don't remember what the default arangement is. It's
never what I want.


what is the upper left hand corner icon called?
 
Not a lot of information to go with. You could try right
clicking it, then selecting the 'properties' button and see
what that says.

Are you talking about the small yellow square that showed up after
installing the ATI Catalyst 8.1 Control Center?
