Hi,
I want to know why many icons such as volume control, anti-virus, etc.
disappear sometimes from systray, while I know that the related programs are
active. During the latest month this has happened more frequently. Can I do
anything about it?

Best regards
M Shafaat

Are you sure they're not just hidden behind the arrow to the left of the tray
(the arrow that should say, "Show hidden icons" when you hover your mouse
over it)? Click on the arrow and you should be able to briefly see the ones
that are missing.

Yes I am sure that the icons are not hidden behind the arrow. This has been
an issue for a long time, even in earlier generations of Windows. I forgot
to say that I run Windows XP Por SP2.

When problem software causes the explorer to restart, the program that
put the icon in the notification area continued running in the
background may not restore it when explorer returns. You may replicate
this by stopping and starting explorer.exe using task Manager.

This happens to me occasionally (once every couple of months or so).
I've read that those who, like me, use automatic logon, bypassing the
Welcome screen, can be prone to it.

I find that logging off and on again usually brings back the missing
icons and they then stay put until the next time :-)
