Icons on desktop will not delete, nor found.

I have some icons that I have dropped from the quick menu down by the start
menu onto the desktop to delete them. Two of the icons are for Netscape and
the other is for Media Player. When I then tried to delete them it froze for
a second and then gave an error stating the icon could not be deleted due to
the disk not permitting it or being locked. I then looked at the properties
for them and it said the source was not a valis source under the properties.
I then tried to goto the desktop folder and delete them and the same problem
was present. I had ran add/remove programs prior to this and they were still
present but now will not let me get rid of them. Hopefully there is something
I can do to get rid of them.

thanks for the help.

DJ:

1) Try rebooting to delete them.
2) Try opening up Windows Explorer and deleting them. Windows +E key or
right click the Start menu>Explorer>Desktop (scroll up to click Desktop)
above My Computer.
3) Try deleting them in Windows Explorer in Safe Mode.

One of these should get it done.
