icons on desktop after rebuilding a drive

i hope I'm in the right group for this.
I am in the process of rebuilding a hard drive. I have installed the
operating system , but find that no icons showed up on the desktop. Should'nt
the icons show up automatically ?Or how does one get them to the desk top.

Hi Moe,

If your referring to Windows XP see below:
Is the Recycle Bin showing?

What Icons are you referring to? If you mean "My Computer" and "My
Network Places"...do the following:

Right click desktop
Click Properties
Click Desktop
Click the "Customize Desktop" button
From the top list under "Desktop Icons" choose the icons that you
wish.

Hi,
Well in XP by default only recycle bin is showed.. Right Click on desktop
goto PROPERTIES then goto Desktop Tab -> Customize Desktop.. here select all
icons and click Ok..
