icons moving

From time to time when I start my computer some of the icons have moved from
the left side of the screen where I put them to the left. Any idea what is
happening?

One cause can be the inadvertent dragging of the taskbar upwards or perhaps
to the left margin (however briefly) so that the desktop icons squashed into
a different shaped space and rearrange themselves.

In any event consider installing:

which gives you a Save Desktop Icon Layout/Restore Desktop Icon Layout
commands when you right click on the Recycle Bin. See post at:

You will find that the restore process is iterative, so you might have to
restore up to three times in quick succession to get your layout back to
perfection if you have a crowded layout..
