On my older install of Windows XP Professional I have a large choice of
icons to select from instead of having to use the generic icon often
assigned to a file or program. I would just click on properties and then
icons and was given a large choice to choose from. I just did a new install
and when following the same procedure, it seems I can only choose from a
small number. Perhaps four or six. Have I failed to install something or OK
a certain option?

Any help would be appreciated

Hi Jerry,

The default location for the icons is "%SystemRoot%\system32\SHELL32.dll" -
if you click on the "browse" button, search for the file "moreicons.dll" -
that will give you additional icons to choose from.

Some other ideas...
Iconlib.dll used to be in Win9x but got rid of it in XP.
I went to download.com and just searched for 'icon library' and found
gobs of hits.
I've also found a program called ICOFX
http://icofx.ro/
to be a pretty good editor of icons. I think you even load bitmaps /
jpeg etc type of files into the program and make .ico files.

Thank you very much ...

Jerry,

Actually, it's "moricons.dll" (no "e") and it is found on XP Pro under the
same path as mentioned before. Should be there! ;o)
