Icons disappearing from system tray

Some of the icons in my system tray, related to programs, have
disappeared while the program they relate too has not been uninstalled.
Can anybody say how this might have happened and how I can restaure them?

The icons in your System Tray (lower right-hand corner of screen)
represent programs that are currently running. If you don't see the
icons, perhaps the programs aren't running.
