Icons disappear when Windows Mail starts

I had a new computer with Vista and Windows Mail for a few days but a small
problem has started When I start Mail, the toolbar is there but all the icons
have disappeared. I can get them back by right clicking the tool bar and
selecting then deselecting Views bar or Search bar.
Anyone got an idea how I could fix this?
Thanks,
Geoff.

This sounds like the feature "Hide unused icons" that windows likes to popup
when you're in the middle of doing. Check to make sure this option hasn't
been selected as this would cause the icons to be hidden until otherwise
noted.
Here are the steps that I found in the Windows Help and Support:

To show desktop icons
a.. Right-click the desktop, point to View, and then click Show Desktop
Icons.

A check mark will appear, indicating that desktop icons are displayed on
your desktop.

Hope this helps.

Sincerely,

Craig

Which antivirus are you using?
Windows Mail is not compatible with most McAfee or
Norton security programs. Those will need to be
uninstalled, not just disabled.

After uninstalling your non-compatible antivirus, download
and install a more compatible antivirus like the free Avast:
http://www.avast.com/eng/avast_4_home.html

Even compatible antivirus programs will need to have their
email scanning option turned off. For more on this topic see
