hi all, i was playing with the display on my computer to try and find an
easier way for my sister with bad eyes to read the screen. i turned on High
Contrast (L shift, L alt, Prt Scrn) to see what it was like and then turned
it off as its probably not a good solution for her.
unfortunately, now all the icons on the desktop are 'placeholder' icons and
the folder displays are all slightly different than they were. system restore
is turned off as i am trying to conserve HD space. i am hoping to restore the
registry and get things back to normal.

one other smaller thing, my brother in law put an annoying picture of
himself as the 'logoff' picture. when i hit 'shut down' it shows this dumb
picture while preparing to turn off. how can i get rid of the pic?

TIA

see Kelly's reply for the Icon issue. for the brother in law, disable
Active desktop, remove brotherinlaw wallpaper, re-enable active desktop.
