Is it possible to remove the text label from icons, singly or collectively?

Hello Julian,

Do you mean the text label that shows up when you have the mouse cursor over
the icon that gives size and that sort of info in explorer.exe?

If that is what you want you do the following to collectively not show it
(doesn't remove it just hides it)

In Explorer go to menu "Tools" -> "Folder Options"
Go to tab "View" scroll down and uncheck: "Show pop-up description for
folder and desktop items"

thank you

Cheers, but no.
What |I meant was the permanent text label on the icons.

I've subsequently found that they can be disappeared by renaming them
"Alt 255" as described in an article in...
http://www.windowsvistamagazine.com/
Which for some reason or another is temporarily unavailable at this time.
