Icon Problems

I recently installed Netscape 4.06 to see how my websites
looked and worked on an old browser. It changed all
my .htm amd .html icons to the communicator lighthouse
and ships wheel. I went into folder settings\file types
and reset them both to IE. IE now opens all .htm
and .html files however I'm stuck with the lighthouse as
an icon on everything in "my webs" and if I use IE for
ftp instead of getting the "E" as an icon (for .htm
and .html's) I get a blank "DOS" square with the file
name correctly displayed. System restore couldn't deal
with it.
Any ideas appreciated, everything works, it's just
annoying.

You did it wrong. Edit the file association not the open with association. Open with normally does nothing, but if you set it it takes precedence over the file association. Open With only specifies the program to open nothing else (except if there is no file association, then it creates one).

Dave,
I got rid of the lighthouses, now anything I made in
Front Page gives me the FP-html Icon, any html I made in
Word gives me the Word-html icon however any plain htm or
html comes up with an unassociated file type icon
(although they open in IE)Where can I get a better
explination on changing the file association, or can you
do it,

I feel like I'm on the right track but don't see any way
to do it.
It seems like if I could delete the file type and add it
again I might get somewhere, but the "delete" stays
greyed out.

html files have an Icon Handler registered. So explorer looks in every html file to see if Word or FP made and alters the icon on the fly.

In File Types. Click Restore. This undoes your change of application (which is the same as using Open With - doesn't affect but over rides the the file association for the OPEN command only). The button will change to Advanced, Click it then click Change Icon.

I did all that and kind of gave up this morning, came
back and when I turned my computer on this afternoon
everything was back to normal.
