Hi all,
Sorry if this has been answered before but I can't find it anywhere, I have
just bought a new pc with XP on and the text under the icons appears to have
a shadow under it, on the desktop and within folders. The question is, is
this correct? and how do I get rid of it because it is really annoying.
TIA.

In system properties click on the advanced tab, click the settings button
under performance and de-select Use drop shadows for icon labels on the
desktop.

It is the default setup; you can turn it off at Control Panel - System -
Advanced - in Performance click Settings and in the Custom panel,
uncheck 'Use drop shadows under icon. . .'

Note that this will show the title on a small tablet of whatever
background color you have set for Control Panel - Display - Desktop so
you may want to adjust that to something that looks well with your
wallpaper. It is only if you have the drop shadow on that this becomes
transparent

Thanks for that I have done so, and it has got rid of the shadows on the
desktop but not on the open files in a folder, any idea how to get rid of
those?
TIA
