what is the significance of the tray icon changing to
blue from red?

It happens when using terminal related services (i.e. Remote Desktop, Remote
Assistance, Fast User Switching).

Any more details available, such as a technical explaination as to why it
changes the color, how long the color change should be there? Is it due to
incomming or outgoing RDT activity? Why flag fast user switches, that seems
to be a benign capability of Windows XP, so why flag it to the user that it
has occured?

Thanks!!

Hi again,
Any more details available, such as a technical explaination as to why it
changes the color, how long the color change should be there?

No, no more info. It's a bug in the current release and has no special
purpose, I think.

Is it due to incomming or outgoing RDT activity?

It is due to using terminal services on your computer, not the remote one.

Why flag fast user switches, that seems to be a benign capability of
Windows XP,
so why flag it to the user that it has occured?

It is not "flagging". It does not matter which terminal services related
action you perform (and particullary Fast User Switching) - it is just a bug
in current MSAS release.
