Hi,
I currently use kerio personal firewall www.kerio.com (free for home usage).
I'm quite happy with it. I have WinXP Pro SPII and because I have this
firewall I turn off ICF
Question.
Does XP ICF compete with 3rd party versions? Would you recommend
uninstalling my current firewall and turning on ICF?
If yes, then why?

Cheers
Jay

Keep Kerio and leave the Windows Firewall off. You don't need to be
running two firewalls and yes, they can cause conflicts. The Windows
Firewall only prevents access to the system from the outside. The Kerio
firewall (and other third-party firewalls) prevent access from the
outside *and* prevent access to the Internet from inside the system and
is therefore better.

A firewall needs to block output ports as well as input ports to be safe
from the spyware and adware on your computer.
While Windows Xp SP2 FW has added benefits during start up and a second
firewall added two the exception tab may indeed be compatible and cause no
conflicts it is difficult to determine due to a lack of documentation of
booth firewalls.

But a blanket statement of Never run two fw's or that they WILL cause
conflicts or that they do NOT provide added benefits is NOT true, and can
NOT be proved by anyone other than a handful of experts whom could care less
about Windows SOHO users and aren't about to express it for less than a
years salary.

Everything about multiple fw's is parrot talk and wife's tales from the
crypt.

That's nice, dear. Feel better now that you've been rude to a complete
stranger? Good. Thanks for making "blanket statements" about other
people's motivations. Bottom line, the OP doesn't need to use two
firewalls, and a third-party firewall is better than XP's built-in one.
End of story.

No intentions of running both, I'm asking which of the 2.

Oh ok, I thought the SP2 version of the firewall was 2 way - as opposed to
it's predecessor?

Thanks, that's what I need to know.

I believe I was talking to you, not the OP.

Rude? It's all between your ears, Dear.

No it's still only one way. Other changes were made to it for SP2 to
make it easier to configure, but it's still just one way.

Ooh! the old adage rings true... don't believe everything you read.
