ICC Profiles For Old Epson Photo EX

Alan Smithee

I'm looking for icc profiles for an old Epson Photo EX printer. All I have
at this point are the basic ones that were installed. Is there a place that
stock piles various icc profiles for different printers, inks and papers?
With some of my newer printers I've noticed a big improvement when I've used
a slightly different version of a profile. Thx.

Hi there.

I had one of those excellent printers, and the main reason I upgraded to the
1290 (1280) was the lack of Media Specific Papers.

Since then, whenever I have been looking for profiles for different papers,
I have always checked to see if any were available for the EX. So far there
have never been any. A few sites list profiles for Epson 1200, but I have
always found these to be for the 1270/1280/1290 range rather than the even
older 1200.

I know how difficult it is to get correct color without the right profile,
and how much paper and ink, and mind time, is wasted.

I think you really only have a few choices.

1. Is to upgrade to a 1280/1290, which is not near as expensive as it used
to be.

2. Get yourself a Hardware Calibrater, which can also scan printer output.
Such as the Spyder Print Fix Pro.

3. Get your system Calibrated and Profiled by someone locally who has the
necessary hardware.

4. Get Printer Profiles made for your favourite Ink/ Paper combination / s.
There are a few sites which can do this at a reasonable cost.

The 2nd choice is the most expensive, but is also the most accurate and
flexible.

You will not be limited to Epson Inks and Epson Paper, because you will be
able to produce accurate profiles for any Ink / Paper combination you are
using. You should be able to recover some of the cost by using the less
expensive Inks and Papers from 3rd parties. (I am not advocating any of the
really cheap and nasty inks which are available).

3 & 4 Are moderate cost and can be very accurate, but as time progresses and
your machine gets older, and materials change, they will need to be re-done

I know exactly where you are coming from, and hope you manage to find one
of these suggestions of some use.
