I would rather open Word attachment in Word than your new word pr.

I do not like that Outlook 2003 open word attachment in some sort of Word
preview window that does not give a true view of what your document looks
like (or will print like). I constantly have to close the window. And
reopen the attachement in the real Word program
 
If you are referring to Word's reading layout -- go to Tools | Options |
General in Word and clear the "Allow starting in Reading Layout" check box.
