I just bought a bigger hard drive for my computer. How
can I copy Windows XP from the old one to the new one
without totally reinstalling everything?

go to the maker of your drive and they will have a free
transfer program

Your drive may come with software to enable you to copy your old drive to
your new drive. I just bought a Western Digital drive and it had such a
utility. Very handy! If you don't have a program like this, maybe someone
else can suggest another course of action.

Get Norton Ghost. At least version Ghost 2003 or Corporate 7.5 can handlee
XP.

I just did that and I redid my whole system.
I think I gained something by it in stability. I did it for that
reason, but I couldn;t imagine that the new drive parameters wouldn't
mess with the registry somehow.
