I have a simple web page, for a service organization. I want to add a visitor
counter to the site.

This has nothing to do with Word? Your web service provider should be able
to provide instructions on how to add such functions.

The web page was created using Word 2003.

But the code function will be supplied by the web provider which you would
have to insert using the Word script editor (ALT + SHIFT + F11).

Word is hopeless at producing web pages. If you want enhanced web services
from a Microsoft product you should look to FrontPage (which is easier to
use than the later Expression.)
