I want opinions on hardware

I love these discussion groups. The amount of information I have gleaned
here is massive and invaluable. But this is all XP.

Can any of you guys recommend a site, as similar to this one as possible,
that allows the posting of questions relating to hardware. I have a few
questions relating to the physical side of my machine and I don't want to
clog these discussions unnecesarily with irrelevant questions about non-xp
issues.

I have recently bought a piece of hardware that I'm not entirely happy with
performance wise and I was wondering about other peoples ratings of it too.
I need some second opinions.

Cheers..

put the name of the hardware in the box under "find a group" and click
"Search for a group"

Thanks Lem... But...

As usual, Google is being awkward with their interface.. there's 'groups'
for all sorts of topics, but I can't be arsed with creating a special google
groups account.

Anyone else?

Learn how to use Outlook Express or Thunderbird or Mozilla Mail or etc.
for news. The server you want is msnews.microsoft.com Once you have it
set up, search for 'hardware' and subscribe to the hardware news groups
of your choice.

Type your hardware + review in Google.

Ex: USB+Drive+review. Then start reading.

Well, this isn't a discussion group. It's Usenet. You think it's a
website, but it is just a web interface to Usenet newsgroups. Set up a
newsreader and then look on your ISP's website for information about
what Usenet newsgroups they host. Most ISP's do, and there are
thousands of newsgroups. If your ISP doesn't provide NNTP (Usenet)
access along with your Internet connection, there are other news
services like Giganews. Here's information on Usenet:

Since you are using the web interface, you may not realize that this is
really a newsgroup. You will get far more out of this resource if you
learn to use a newsreader. There are many good newsreaders for Windows,
but you can use Outlook Express since you already have it. Here are
some links to information about newsgroups:

If your interest is in hardware issues under Windows XP, try
microsoft.public.windowsxp.hardware.

But note that that is not a "site," but a newsgroup. This "site" is a also a
newgroup, microsoft.public.windowsxp. You may be accessing it via
Microsoft's web-based interface, but that doesn't change the fact that
underneath it's a newsgroup, not a web site.

Also note that accessing newsgroups the way you're doing it is the slowest,
clunkiest, most error-prone method there is. Do yourself a favor and switch
to a newsreader, such as Outlook Express, which comes with Windows. See

Sites: Extremetech, AnandTech, Toms Hardware, PCMag, HardOCP, just to name a
few of the millions on the web. You will want to join their forums if you
want to post questions. Their hardware reviews are free to all to read.(And
some are very accurate and thorough.)

What I think you are looking for is a new group like this one but related to
PC hardware.

Your ISP should have a news server. Rather than using Google's clunky web
interface for newsgroups, you can set up Outlook Express or another
newsreader to read newsgroups. You can use as many news servers as you want
but I've never found a reason to use more than two - my ISP's and
Microsoft's. My ISP newserver has the groups you're looking for, just set
up the account in the newsreader after getting the news server name from
your ISP and search for newsgroups that have the word "hardware" in them.
You'll find some good ones.
