I Want My Network Icons Back!

On XP and 2000 you could display an icon in the taskbar for any
enabled network interface you chose to, and you could see if the
connection was active.

How the hell do you do that on Vista? I get just one icon for all the
interfaces and the "turn on activity animation" option does almost
nothing. I want to be able to see at a glance if there's network
activity and on which interface.

Is there an option - even a registry hack - to allow me to go back to
the XP way?

If you click a single time on that global network icon, it will show every
connection.
I know it's not what you're looking for, but that's all I've been able to
figure out.

The all in one network icon determins whether you are connected locally or
to the Internet. Its more intuitive. If you want to check your Network
Connection Status, click the icon, then click the link to Network and
Sharing Center, the click the "View Status" link.

I disagree.

I know how to do it, thanks.

It's a pain.

But thanks for the response.

I guess presenting *less* information is in fashion nowadays.

Maybe there's a sidebar gadget somewhere that will do it.

Dear Steve

I have a lateral thinking idea. Create a shortcut to the ncpa.cpl in the
Taskbar

This is how I created my Network Center Icon, it's not the complete answer
but it may spark an idea.
