I use XP for my analog camcorder and no driver available for my Brooktree 8x8 TV card for Vista

Without that driver I will remain with XP. Vista seems digitally
orientated more so than XP and has no proper drivers for Analog. I
upgraded using RC2 and TV could not be viewed except choppy, my RCA
connection worked - but only in Black & White, and Sound instead of being
stereo was Mono. Plus the Card is not on the approved list of hardware for
drivers - so if someone does or does not - I will need to use Linux.

Seems silly to me

i've used these drivers fine under Windows Vista for my Brooktree 8x8
TV card:

Those drivers have been around, but they work basically if you have a
software card. I have a card that has an MPEG2 chip built-in with the
brooktree underneath. Ulead can address the card at AVI level, plus the
freeware program Virtualdub. But the drivers you suggest will not work.
All Linux drivers work for AVI and MainConcept both sides (Linux \ Windows)

But if you have a hardware-based system Vista does not have a driver as
yet.

I cannot switch until it does

A lot of folks are like me I think - who bought low-end cards.

The Connexant MPEG2 chip sits on top of the Brooktree 8x8 chip so when
you
record using Intervideo WinDVR at MPEG2 you do not need to re-encode
unless
you are foolish for any MPEG services. I do find with my card I capture
at
DV using Panasonic DV for cap using VirtualDub, then using the transcode
function of WinDVR to translate into MPEG.

Without support driver for this card - I could never consider Vista.
Which
is a very basic Combo card of an Mpeg2 Chip from Connexant and an AVI
card
from Brooktree - the 8x8.

Most folks using really true Analog to Digital consider ATI- aill-in-
wonder-Cards toys as well as any other software solutions.

I just wish you would create a true driver for us folks so we could use
Vista

Well... that's just the cost of doing business when it comes to upgrading to
a new OS. Believe me, I feel your pain. I've got a "toy" ATI TV Wonder Pro
for which there are no Vista drivers. So if I want to move to Vista on that
PC, then I'll have to buy a new piece of hw. Unless ATI -does- release Vista
drivers for it. But I suspect that won't be the case and I'll have to buy
new hw. Sigh...
