Help

I have just purchased some RAM memory but when I look at my bios i
says I only have 1 gb, 2 clots each with 512mb. I then run a test o
crucial.com and it says the same thing, both slots are filled wit
512mb Non-parity DDR PC3200!!

However, the chap who sold me them (Ebay!!!) described them as 'I a
selling 2 sticks of 184-pin 1GB PC3200 non-ECC unbranded high densit
(128Mx64) DDR400 memory. These have been in my system for a couple o
months at 3-3-3-8 latency (not overclocked) and work perfectly.

The label stuck on the RAM says '1gb DDR-PC3200 400Mhz module DIMM
Warranty void if removed

I have a Dell computer and the motherboard has two slots that needs t
be either 333 or 400 Mhz DDR SDRAM, in memory capacities of eithe
128, 256, 512 or 1Gb per slot

THAT'S WHAT I SUPPOSEDLY BOUGHT!!!

I have looked in the Bios to see if anything needs adjusting but th
memory is fixed, I can't alter any of the settings. It says 1024mb
512 mb per slot

Have I been done or am I missing a setting I need to change

I fear the worst

PS it is a dell Dimension 3000 and the speed the memory is running a
is 333Mh

It could be that your motherboard doesn't support the RAM configuration
so only sees half of each stick.

You need to use an application to ID the DIMMS, such as Lavalys Everest
and check what it reports them as (the model, not the capacity) against
the manufacturers site.

Almost certainly because it's "high density" memory at the maximum capacity
of the slot. The system will only see half of it.
