I really need help. Key mix-up

Ok, four days ago I bought a computer from Tiger Direct. They said the
computer came with windows XP pro. Windows XP pro came pre-installed. I didnt
get a CD. I turned my computer on. They hadn't entered the Product key so the
installation wasnt complete. No problem right? They gave me a product key
with the computer. I typed in the product key and it said "invalid key" or
whatever. Come to find out, they gave me a Home Edition key. I tried to call
Tiger for four days to get a new Code. I couldnt get through to anyone who
could help me at all. I need to get my Product key switched to the proper
one. Can anyone help me? Give me a phone number i can call to talk to
microsoft tech support? Or anything that may help me? I went to microsofts
website..obviously...and the phone numbers dont apply. I dont need help
installing anything...or reporting anything with pyracy or whatever their
really obscure cases they have numbers applied to. I CANT afford to throw
away money on buying ANOTHER copy of XP Pro because of tiger direct and
microsofts miscommunication. Just dont send me back to tigerdirect. Ive
talked to them. For FOUR days. Its like asking a legless man to swim a
marathon. They are completely incapable. Please help.

Solution:

Call Tiger Support customer service. Request RMA. Return machine to
Tiger Direct. If necessary, notify your credit card holder or bank
and request a charge back.

Microsoft has nothing to do with your problem so it won't do any good
to get them involved. This is between you and Tiger Direct.

Well then you're an idiot for not doing any research. I didn't know there
was anyone in the US who didn't know of TD's appalling reputation. Even /I/
know about it and I'm in the UK.

They said the

Well that's what you get for doing zero research.

anyone help me?

Yep. Tiger Direct.

Give me a phone number i can call to talk to
microsoft tech support?

Nope. MS does not, will not and, indeed, cannot, assist with OEM supplied
software. All support - including replacement keys and media - is the sole
responsibility of the manufacturer and/or vendor.

Or anything that may help me?

Tiger Direct.

The onus is with TD. You have no other course of action. There is no
"miscommunication". Microsoft has nothing whatsoever to do with OEM-supplied
software. TD will customise their own installations. Microsoft cannot assist
you.

You have two choices: -

Persist with TD or purchase a full XP licence, install it clean, and
invalidate the warranty (though it's highly unlikely that TD would honour it
anyway).

Tiger direct is the only source for help.
Consider sending computer back if you do not get satisfaction.

To the OP, did you pay by credit card? Call the CC co. and
have them get the product key for you or return the
computer. You didn't get what you ordered and paid for, the
contract has been breached by TigerDirect and you are under
no obligation to pay for the computer (the entire order) and
if they want the merchandise back, they have to pay all
shipping and packing costs. I bet they'll provide you the
proper software and codes. Get a CD too.

It's important to notify Tiger Direct (in writing by registered post NOT
email) that "the computer was faulty on arrival and that you reserve the
right to reject and return it for a full refund unless they provide a valid
Procuct Key for the installed operating system by <insert date 10 days after
posting>. Keep a copy and the proof of delivery. Copy the letter to your
credit card company and tell Tiger that you have done so in the letter. Do
this asap because in some cases you are deemed to have accepted a product if
you don't do this within a certain period of time. Email and telephone calls
don't count as they are too easily "lost".
