i/o drive error 0x8007045D

I have been backing up files every week and a complete backup every month to
a 250G external drive, using the Vista Business Backup Center. Today I was
trying to do the complete backup. All went well until about halfway through
the process, I got the I/O device error 0x8007045D. What is happening and how
do I fix it? Thanks. Mike

I forgot to give you my system info:
Vista Business
160G HD
250G external HD, usb 2.0
2G RAM
Pentium 4, 3GHz
