I/O device error on only one file in and external harddrive.

I've renamed it, moved it within it's hard drive.
Can't get rid of it.

If I moved everything but that file to my internal hard drive, and then reformatted the external, would that get rid of it?

Your method should work, but why not try freeware Unlocker first. Do a
Google search -- it's available at several locations?
