I need some serious help...Blinking Cursor

I am seeing an outbreak of systems crashing and going to a blinking cursor (top left corner of screen). Any ideas what could be causing this?

Let me give a little background...we are seeing it not only on one type of model...we are seeing this on HP and Compaq units alike (laptops and desktops). The common themes are that they all have Windows XP Pro, Trend Micro, and a few standard programs.
