I need help with backspace button

When I use microsoft software (Word, Excel, Outlook) my backspace button does
not work when I highlight text. I am also having a problem when I highlight
text and start typing it does not type over the highlighted text it just
inserts it before the highlighted material. I started to notice this problem
when I installed a bluetooth keyboard on my laptop but I dont know if the two
issues are related to the new keyboard.

In Tools > Options > Edit, check the box for "Typing replaces selection".
