I need HELP!!!! PLEASE!!!!

okay first I have a Mitsumi cd-rom FX4831T!A (came with the Gateway) and I
had someone to install the Liteon DVDRW LDW-811s. Neither drive will burn,
Mitsumi will play cd but when blank is put in it spins, then stops, then
spins and then stops. (I tried 3 different brands of cd) The Liteon want play
anything it spins and then stops and spins and then stops. I've tried to
delete upper and lower filters but only found lower filters, I tried
downloading firmware but to no avail nothing. (I think I did it right) I
tried uninstalling the liteon program and install it again but nothing. I've
tried to to change the mitsumi to slave and liteon to master but
nothing.(should I have moved the IDE cables to the different drives when I
did this??Number one I'm not good at computers internally so I think I'm lost
but with some guidance I think I can get this together. I just install
Hotburn and it didn't recognize my drives to burn anything but showed the
screen to test both of them, but when I try to burn nothing is been detected.
Please I have a bald HEAD and I'm still losing my hair. Please help someone.

Call Hotburn tech support. They may have a patch they have to snail-mail to you
on cd. (Damn .NET FRAMEWORK for Hotburn!!!)
Uninstall Hotburn and see if your drives will play a cd again.

You have two options for cabling, either have one optical drive set as slave
on the same IDE cable as the hard drive (master), or two opticals on the
same but separate IDE cable, one set as master and the other as slave.
Presumably the Mitsumi is not faulty as it seems to have been working
earlier, but as the Liteon has never worked then it could be faulty. I would
take the Liteon out and try to get the Mitsumi working on its own, then take
the Mitsumi out and try to get the Liteon working on its own. This will
confirm that both opticals work OK and that you are not wasting your time
trying to get a faulty drive to work. Then try to get them working together,
preferably on separate IDE cables so one is a slave and one is a master. The
IDE cables must be pushed onto the pins firmly and must be correct way round
in the optical drive - there might be a red stripe down the edge of the IDE
cable - this must be on the side of the power supply to the drive.

Uninstall the Hotburn program. Did the Liteon come with Nero ?? If so,
install that.

I may be wrong, but a quick search shows that the Mitsumi cd-rom FX4831T!A
is a CD-ROM drive and not a burner. So the way it reacts when you put a
blank CD into it is correct. As long as it recognises and plays pre-recorded
music or data CDs then it is working OK.

I don't know what the problem is with the Liteon DVDRW LDW-811s. It could
just be a defective unit.

Find the person that installed them and ask them to please fix the problem..
If you can't find that person, take it in to a competent (not a bg box
department stroe) repair shop and have it fixed or replaced. Then quit
experimenting.
