I down loaded Window vista ultimate from MSDN website. 5 ISO files (CD1-CD5).
what is the best way to install it? do I need to extract the files using
isobuster into 5 separate folders (one folder for each cd), then burn the
each folder on to a cd?
Can someone help

Hello Al,

With your burning software create a cd from the .iso file directly.

As said before, use your burning software to 'burn image' and use the .iso
files directly.

Didn't they have a single .iso file for burning onto a DVD? That would be
much hassle to use when installing Vista.

Hello Synapse,

You're right, it also is available as DVD version.

Thank you all,
Yes they did have a one dvd down load, I just do not have a dvd burner:)
So if I use the burning software to 'burn image' on to the cd, what is the
difference between the iso file that I downloaded and the one on cd? sorry I
am new to this
thanks

The ISO is just an image. Then when you burn the image using the
appropriate software, it converts the image to the actual installation
files.

Remember not to burn the .iso files onto the CDs just as you would ordinary
files. You have to burn it as an image, otherwise it will not work. I
remember doing that myself a long time ago.

If you say what burning software you have, somebody could tell you exactly
how to do it. I only know Nero.

And how are you going to install Vista like that?

That was how I installed my beta download images of vista from the MS
site. I used a virtual dvd software to run the image under XP, and
followed the prompts.

Oh okay. I suppose the installer does copy all the files before doing its
stuff. I never upgrade.

There is an excellent free program that will burn almost any disc image file
called "Imgburn". You can find it by googling. For a free program it is
one of the best I have ever seen. It only does one thing, but does it
extremely well.

Actually, neither did I, I installed it on another partition. It just
allowed you to start the install from within XP, then once it copied
files, you could reboot and boot into the setup to continue.

Surprisingly enough, the install process was something I never had
problems with Vista even while it was still beta. I did have problems
once I booted into vista after installation and I have always taken
issue with the Buggy DRM and the 2 dozen plus programs/services/features
which phone home to MS with your personal info, But the install seemed
pretty solid for me, YMMV.
