I need assistance, please.

Since I have updated to IE 6.0 I have been experiencing
this problem. I can't say for sure that it is because I
updated. But, that is about the time I began experiencing
the problem. I am a novice so, please, be patient as I
try to explain. I first noticed the problem when I tried
to access my bank of america account (no problems with
this site in the past). When I tried to access my
account, it wouldn't let me. The way I understand the
problem, the site doesn't recognize that I have IE 6.0.
It reads it as being a later version of IE without 128 bit
encryption. I thought this problem was specific to my
Bank of America account. But, recently I have experienced
other problems that I think are related. While using MSN
8, I tried to access a help menu. No luck. Error http
500. I have recently stopped using MSN as my ISP and
primary browser. When I try to log onto my .net passport,
I once again get the error saying my browser isn't
supported. It thinks I'm using IE 4.0 or something like
that. I have tried contacting tech support. They just
keep telling me to reinstall IE 6.0 and try again. This
doesn't work. I've tried it. When I go under the "about
internet" help menu, it DOES say IE 6.0 and 128 bit cipher
strength. And I have accessed sites, where 128 bit
encryption was required. Why can't I access my bank of
america account or my .net passport account? I would
appreciate any help whatsoever. I really have come to
rely on my online banking services.

I never experienced this problem before. After trying to
figure out the problem, with no luck, I tried to go back
to using IE 5.0. But, it is no longer downloadable. I
don't have the original software (my computer was a
secondhand gift). Even if I could get IE 5.0 reinstalled,
do you think that would help solve my problem?

Thanks
Rach.

Hi Rachel,

I know you have said you tried reinstalling IE 6, but have
you tried just uninstalling it completely and reverting
back to the previous version of IE?.

Another test might to download another Internet browser,
such as Opera from opera.com, and then try logging into
your bank account and seeing if you get the same problem
with that.

Hope this helps.
