I made a mistake in my WIN2K registry

R

Red Ryder

This procedure is part of installing a driver to run my
old HP OfficeJet 710 Multi-purpose
printer/fax/canner/copier.

I screwed up on my Windows 2000 computer: I went into the
registry, and failed to follow the Microsoft written
instructions which read:

1. Click Start, then Run.
2. Type regedt32, and click OK.
3. Go to the HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT window, and highlight
the main branch.
4. Click Security, then Permissions.
5. Set the permission for Everyone to Full, and click
OK.
6. Select the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE widow, then navigate
to System/CurrentControlSet/Enum branch.
7. Click Security, then Permissions.
8. Set the permission for Everyone to Full, then
click OK.

I got distracted after #5., and when I returned, I thought
I was finished, and closed the HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT window.

When I repeated steps 1. through 3., all the HKEY windows
opened up like they did the first time, but then all
disappeared except the HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT window.

Trying to fix the mistake, I ran through 1. - 5. again and
changed the permission key for Everyone back to READ, and
closed the window. However, the same thing happened again,
with all the other windows disappearing, except
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT.

So I cannot continue with the instructions because the
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE window is no longer available. How can
I correct this? Please.

You can switch windows within regedt32 by using the "window" menu.
